FRACTION PIZZAS

HANDS ON ACTIVITY
FRACTIONS FOR YOUNG LEARNERS

A creative way to deliver an understanding of fractions!
Print and cut out the manipulative fraction pizzas to help spice up you fraction lesson.
Fractions can be such a tricky concepts for young students. This file uses pizzas to show fractions from a whole number through to twelfths and uses a hands on approach.
This activity includes fractions with denominators of 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,and 12.

We made 13 pizza mats and pizza toppings.
Each mat has an image of pizza without toppings and two boxes (where you can write the given fraction).

How to use
*Download and print the fraction pizzas or print them directly on your computer
*You could print them directly on cards stock or laminate them to last longer
*Cut out the pizza toppings
* You will need board marker for writing the given fraction in the boxes
*Ready slips of papers. On each one write the following fractions: 1/1,1/2,1/3,2/3,3/3,1/4,2/4,3/4,4/4.1/5,2/5,3/5,4/5,5/5,1/6,2/6,3/6,4/6,5/6,6/6,1/7,2/7,3/7,4/7,5/7,6/7,7/7,1/8,2/8,3/8,4/8,5/8,6/8,7/8,8/8,1/9,2/9,3/9,4/9,5/9,6/9,7/9,8/9,9/9,1/10,2/10,3/10,4/10,5/10,6/10,7/10,8/10,9/10,10/10,1/11,2/11,3/11,4/11,5/11,6/11,7/11,8/11,9/11,10/11,11/11,1/12,2/12,3/12,4/12,5/12,6/12,7/12,8/12,9/12,10/12,11/12,11/12
Fold the slips in half and and drop them into the bowl

*Have your young learner draw a slip from the bowl.
*Have your young learner choose which mat is the best for the given fraction
*Have your young learner decorate the pizza (use the printable pizza toppings) to present the given fraction.
*Repeat the process
